ABOUT THE ARTWORK:
Chris’s first pro graphic features a skeleton bursting out of a jack in the box — a bold metaphor for breaking free from limitations and embracing authenticity. It represents the idea of thinking outside the box; stepping out of your comfort zone; and owning who you are. Created in collaboration with VCJ; the design captures the raw feeling of self-discovery and transformation. Chris’s hope is that his graphic invites skaters to recognize each other; spark conversations; and build community; especially for those who might feel unseen or out of place.
Unbeknownst to both Chris and Court; the graphic would take on an even deeper meaning. Court was in the middle of designing the piece when he experienced a heart attack — a shocking event that mirrored the image he was drawing: a Jack in the Box; heart at its center; radiating outward. What started as a playful idea became a raw; symbolic reflection of life’s unpredictability; and a reminder of how art; emotion; and experience are often more connected than we realize.
